November/December
I recently gave a lecture on color at The Drawing Room in New Bedford, MA. It was an enjoyable early fall Saturday where I shared my experiences using color in my work. I discussed Hans Hofmann's Push-Pull Theory and explored how color can enhance our culinary and cocktail creations. Not long ago, I had the opportunity to speak at The Wamsutta Club in New Bedford, MA, in collaboration with The New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center. I was thrilled to meet Ms. Scallop from 1961 (as shown in the picture) and hear some of her fascinating stories! Later this fall, I will conduct a workshop at the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center. This workshop is open to older women in New Bedford who are connected to the local fishing culture. Her story is an intergenerational oral history project that pairs high school and college students with older women who have ties to New Bedford’s fishing community. I will guide them in storytelling through journaling, including sketches and written pieces. I am excited to help preserve these oral and written histories for future generations.
In November and December, Charles and I will have some of our work exhibited at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum. It's a treat to head out to the outer Cape at this time of year. The light is exquisite, friends have more time to socialize after their busy summer schedules, and we are continually inspired by the beauty of the landscape and the creative spirit of the place where we met. Before I sign off, I wanted to share our updated winter plans. We are excited to add a significant amount of time in the Basque Country and The Empordà in Spain to our ongoing winter stays in Paris. We look forward to exploring more of the Basque region and experiencing Catalonia in Spain for the first time. New coasts, new mountains, new food, and new wine await us. Avec impatience!
Think:
Salvador Dalí: The surrealist painter was born in Figueres in the Alt Empordà in 1904. His work was inspired by the landscape of the Costa Brava, which he often depicted in his dream-like paintings. You can visit Dalí's house-museum in Port Lligat to see where he lived and worked.
Pablo Picasso: The artist was inspired by the Costa Brava and its white-washed villages, sea, and shore. He spent time in the area and his paintings and sculptures entered the “blue period”.
Joan Miró: The Catalan painter and sculptor was inspired by the Costa Brava and often traveled there to create his work.
Remedios Varo: The Catalan surrealist painter was born in Anglès in 1908. She was known for her fascination with alchemy, pseudoscience, and theosophy
